Acupuncture during pregnancy
Acupuncture is regularly used for easing a wide range of pregnancy related symptoms such as back pain, morning sickness, heartburn, sciatica and headaches. It is a safe and effective treatment and particularly helpful when pregnancy limits the type of medication women can take.
Acupuncture can also be used to prepare the body and mind for labour and many women who go over their due date turn to Acupuncture to encourage labour to start and and for contractions to progress.
Moxibustion during pregnancy
Moxibustion works on the same principles as Acupuncture but instead of inserting needles, a lit moxa stick made from dried mugwort, is held near an Acupuncture point on the little toe. The therapeutic heat produced by the moxa stick, can encourage breech babies to move into the correct position for birth. This is ideally done between 34 & 36 weeks gestation but can still be effective up to 38 weeks.
Postpartum Acupuncture
Many women also turn to Acupuncture to help their bodies recover quicker after giving birth.
